 Pitch Perfect — Joshua Gros

Position: Midfielder
Birthdate: June 25, 1982

90:00 If you can play on any team, in any game, in any stadium in the world—which one would it be?
Gros D.C. United at RFK Stadium.

90:00 Which player do you hate playing against the most? Toughest opponent?
Gros I guess Frankie Hejduk. I would say… UNAM Pumas from Mexico.

90:00 In the last seconds of the game, you are crossing the ball in the box. Who do you want on the receiving end of that ball?
Gros Anybody in the world? I would say, Zinedine Zidane.

90:00 Who was your favorite team growing up and why?
Gros D.C. United because they were my home team. I lived fairly close.

90:00 Who was your favorite player and why?
Gros Ben Olsen, because we both grew up in the same area.

90:00 Who is the most underrated player on your team?
Gros Brian Carroll.

90:00 Best player you’ve played with…
Gros Jamie Moreno.

90:00 Best player you’ve played against…
Gros Jamie Moreno, in practice.

90:00 Your biggest influence and why…
Gros My Dad. Growing up he drove me to every game when I couldn’t drive. Even when I could drive he would still drive me.

90:00 Which major sporting event would you like to be a part of other than a soccer one?
Gros I’d say NBA finals.

90:00 Which women’s player is a must on your team in a 2v2 co-ed match?
Gros Mia Hamm.

90:00 If you had to get a non-soccer job tomorrow, what would it be?
Gros I would be an engineer because that is what I have my degree in.

90:00 Funniest moment on the field…
Gros In college I had a wide open shot and I just whiffed the ball. It wasn’t funny at the time but now it’s pretty funny.

90:00 Which soccer player would you pay the most to watch?
Gros Pay the most to watch? I guess, again Zidane.

90:00 The most intimidating place you’ve played…
Gros It would have to be Pumas when we played them there in Mexico City [on April 13]. It was pretty crazy—40,000 people, the biggest crowd I’ve ever played against rooting against you. Not one person rooting for you.

90:00 Which player would you like to see on your team?
Gros Nobody. I like our team.

90:00 Where do you want to be in five years?
Gros Hopefully still here with D.C. United.

90:00 What’s been your career highlight so far?
Gros Winning the MLS Cup last year.

90:00 What’s been you career lowlight so far?
Gros Well, I haven’t really had one. I’ve been in the league one year and we won a championship.

90:00 Who would you say your style of play is most like?
Gros Somebody who runs a lot… a young Ben Olsen.

90:00 Any advice you’d give a young soccer player...
Gros Practice.

90:00 Tell us something we don’t know about you...
Gros I like to hunt. I’m from Pennsylvania, that’s what we do.
