 Pitch Perfect — Troy Perkins
 Pitch Perfect — Troy Perkins
Club: D.C. United
Position: Goalkeeper
Birthdate: July 29, 1981
Hometown: Worthington, OH

90:00 If you can play on any team, in any game, in any stadium in the world—which one would it be?
Perkins Good question. I’d have to say with Arsenal, in a Champions League Final. Everyone is watching at home and obviously, if you win the cup and you go home, you’re gods for the rest of your life there.

90:00 Which player do you hate playing against the most? Toughest opponent?
Perkins Actually, in college, I had a chance to play against Celtic, so I played against Henrik Larson when he was there, and the other players too.

90:00 Who was your favorite team growing up and why?
Perkins Favorite team would have to be Manchester United. In the U.S., you see so much of their merchandise and they’re on TV all the time so you can’t really not like them. So favorite team growing up was definitely Manchester United.

90:00 Who was your favorite player and why?
Perkins Actually, Tony Meola. In the ’94 World Cup they really used him as a big marketing tool. But, definitely no ponytail for Tony. I remember going to camp and everyone had their head shaved like that and had the ponytail in the back.

90:00 Best player you’ve played with…
Perkins I’d have to say [former D.C. United defender] Ryan Nelsen.

90:00 Any Superstitions?
Perkins Nah, none.

90:00 If you had to get a non-soccer job tomorrow, what would it be?
Perkins I’d probably be a teacher, a schoolteacher.

90:00 Funniest moment on the field…
Perkins Last year when Jason Kreis scored his league-high goal. You had to laugh at that because of how bad it was. To let in five goals against the Burn, that was just funny for me.

90:00 What are some of your hobbies?
Perkins I read a lot and don’t really watch too much TV. I just read and I like to go out and camp a lot.

90:00 Who would you most like to meet?
Perkins I guess I’d say Robert Bly, who’s a philosopher and writer. He’s someone I’d like to have dinner with and to talk to.

90:00 Which soccer player would you pay the most to watch?
Perkins Ronaldihno.

90:00 The most intimidating place you’ve played…
Perkins I’d say Colorado, my very first game. Playing in front of 35,000 people. That was intimidating for my very first step onto the field. We lost 2-1, but I actually played pretty well.

90:00 Which player would you like to see on your team?
Perkins I wouldn’t mind having Ezra Hendrickson back, he’s a good guy on and off the field. He’s always just relaxed and gets along with the other guys.

90:00 What’s been your career highlight so far?
Perkins Highlights are obviously playing half the season last year, and playing with a great defense.

90:00 What’s been you career lowlight so far?
Perkins Lowlight was actually not getting drafted. It’s a real ego buster.

90:00 Any advice you’d give a young soccer player
Perkins Just work hard and, no matter what people tell you, just don’t believe them and keep trying.
