Arsenal 4-1 Wigan

Coach Arsene Wenger reacts:

We can cope with the tension

“It was dramatic because it was a difficult game,” he told Arsenal Player. “We had a good start and then in the final 20 minutes of the first half we didn’t play with enough drive going forward.

“They came back into the game and it was a huge blow for us [when they scored], you could see it affected the team at half time. When we came out in the second half we were a bit edgy and Wojciech made an important save at 1-1. When we scored the second it became a comfortable win afterwards.

“There will be nerves again [at Newcastle], but we have dealt with nerves for a long, long time now. It is natural of course, because it shows that [the players] care but this team is on an exceptional run and has an exceptional spirit.

“We have 70 points, the target is 73, so let’s just go with the spirit and desire we have and I think we can do it.”
