U.S. Waxes Panama

Bundesliga-based veteran Kasey Keller continued to prove why he is considered one of the better keepers in the world as he came up with a couple world-class saves against a feisty Panama squad to help lead the U.S. National Team to a resounding 3-0 victory in Panama City in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night. Carlos Bocanegra, Landon Donovan and Brian McBride rounded out the scoring for the Americans who took a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and held on to get three valuable road points. Bocanegra powered home a sweet header in the 6th minute off a Landon Donovan corner kick to give the U.S. some much-needed momentum on foreign soil. Landon Donovan added a goal of his own, scoring off a flashing header from a Steve Ralston cross in the 20th minute, and Brian McBride rounded out the scoring just before the half by pouncing on a failed clearance to slot home a left-footed goal and put the game out of reach. The Americans now sit comfortably in second place with 12 points while Mexico still lead the way with 13 in the group. The U.S. return home toward the end of summer when they face Trinidad and Tobago on August 17th in Connecticut and at this point look certain to qualify for Germany 2006 unless they make an absolute mess out of things or somebody jinxes them.
