Mexico Stun Brazil to Progress

The Confederations Cup in Germany has continued to prove to be a tournament full of surprises and exciting play. Mexico upset Brazil 1-0 on Sunday to book a place in the semifinals of the tournament, leaving Brazil and Japan to square off in their final group match to see who gets to join them.

Brazil looked far from impressive in the match and rarely threatened Mexico’s stingy defense. Jared Borgetti grabbed the second half goal that won the match, redeeming himself after a weird sequence of events in the first half when he had to take the same penalty three times, missing the first and last attempts. In the other group, Argentina saw off a spirited Australian side to join hosts Germany in the final four.
