Argentina, Nigeria to Meet in the World Youth Championship Final
Their senior squad may have failed against Brazil next
door in Germany, but the junior Argentines got the better
of their continental rivals with a 2-1 win over Brazil
in the World Youth Championship semifinal in Utrecht,
Holland. Argentina will hope to continue their almost
dynastic dominance of this event, having now reached
four out of the last finals of the U-20 tournament.
In the other semifinal, Nigeria won the battle of
Africa 3-0 over Morocco in Kerkade. The crowd was almost
entirely in favor of the Moroccans as the small, quiet
town had been invaded by their traveling support, but
Nigeria held their nerve and eased their way into the
Final as Morocco surprisingly had trouble taking inspiration
from the rabid crowd support. The Final between Argentina
and Nigeria will take place in Utrecht on Saturday July
2nd, and will be broadcast live in North America on
Fox Soccer Channel.
