Just when the Ashley Cole/Chelsea tapping-up affair
had finally cooled down, Alexi Lalas has come along
and stirred up an MLS version of the controversy. In
an interview the new MetroStars President and GM stated
that he wants to bring Freddy Adu to New York to play
for his club, infuriating D.C. United President Kevin
Payne in the process.
Lalas had announced when he surprisingly took over the
team that he wished to turn the MetroStars into an MLS
super-club, and what better way to do that than by bringing
the by far the League’s most recognizable face
to the leading media center in the world. It should
also be noted that the all-powerful AEG (Anschutz Entertainment
Group) own both the MetroStars and D.C. United. Draw
your own conclusions.
