CREW SIGNS CROATIAN MIDFIELDER LEONARD BISAKU

The 31-Year-Old Bisaku Will Be Looked At To Fill The Defensive Midfielder Role

COLUMBUS, Ohio. The Columbus Crew announced today that the club has signed Croatian midfielder Leonard Bisaku.  Per league and team policies, contract terms are not disclosed.  The deal is pending approval of his work permit.

The 31-year-old Bisaku trained with The Crew in Cyprus during the preseason and will be looked at to fill the defensive midfielder role for the club.

Bisaku has played the majority of his professional career in Croatia, but was most recently with Posusje in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Premier League for the 2005-2006 season.  He also played the 2003 season with Seongnam Ilhwa in South Korea. His pro career in Croatia has included stints with Rijeka (2003-2004), Hrv. Dragovoljac (2001-2002), Slaven Belupo (1999-2001), Cibalia (1998-1999) and Hajduk Split (1996-1998). Adding Leo gives us a solid player with some very good experience,” said Crew Head Coach Sigi Schmid.  “He can defend but is also very comfortable on the ball.”
