Mark Lincir’s MLS Picks – Week 12

The brutality! I tried to go out on a limb on a few matches and what do I get? Serious losses and an overall record that now looks like I started following this game when MLS signed Landon (when was that after all?). I must have been way into a happy hour(s) when I picked the Galaxy to win at home against the best team in the League (D.C.) and must have just been hit in the head with a blunt object when I picked the Crew to beat the Wizards (the Crew lost 1-0).

Last weekend I went an embarrassing 2-5 and am now 28-38 on the season. I’m not happy. I’m now in Germany soaking up all that the beautiful world of soccer has to offer (female Swedish soccer fans), so you can imagine how much I care about this weekend’s match-up between the Galaxy and Red Bulls. Enough about me…here’s my picks.

Saturday
D.C. @ New England: Peter Nowak is proving why he gets paid to coach this game. His team plays the best soccer in the League and he looks primed to win his second MLS Cup in three seasons at the helm. New England scored a handful of goals against the Fire last weekend, but also let in three. D.C. United 1-0.

Galaxy @ Red Bulls: The Galaxy haven’t won in two tries under new Coach Frank Yallop, but this game could be the perfect formula to turn things around. Unfortunately, Mo’s team doesn’t win much, but they don’t lose that much either. Red Bulls 1-0.

Fire @ Wizards: Just when they thought they finally had a home, the Fire are on the road again. Gansler’s style of coaching might not sell many tickets, but it’s effective enough to have them in the top half of the East. Wizards 2-1.

RSL @ Dynamo: If Houston loses this game, I am going to personally fly to Texas to fire everybody! If Dave Checketts had any intention of ever flipping his Utah franchise for some cash, it’s not going to happen this season. Dynamo 3-0.

Crew @ Chivas USA: Sigi returns to his former home stadium in hopes of getting some much-needed points, but it won’t happen. Chivas USA 1-0.
